The AU in tl;dr:
once upon a time clu gained access to an archive of ye olde grid information that flynn planned to incorporate into his system at a later date, but horf dorf the coup happened
clu was using this archive to bypass a shitton of his 'lol you can't create and can only re-purpose' limitations through a slew of loopholes
sark's data was in this of archive, and pre-coup flynn had already started to work on his code because HE THOUGHT IT'D BE REALLY FUNNY TO HAVE HIM AS A BUTLER. but whoops chekhov's gun all up in here, the entirety of MCP's [heavily damaged] code was inter-spliced throughout sark's own and it was kind of taking a lot of time and effort to do for a side project, so he got back burner'ed.
oh fuck clu having access to sark or the MCP in any form was bad bad bad, so flynn quickly snatched that shit up, slap-dashed sark back together, and put the more volatile parts of his code [e.g. the MCP et al, most of sark's functionality and history] in a secondary, dimutive disk with heavy, heavy encryptions.
and then flynn looked him in the eye and said 'bro you are now my butler and you are to listen only to quorra and myself and if you ever go crazy and want to hurt either of us you are to override everything and kill yourself as a top priority protocol lol' [spoilers: oops he kills himself but OH GOD IT MAKES THINGS WORSE]
and then lots of stuff happens. mostly that he falls in love with quorra, flynn is a total dick because he's going through that pre-zen mourning phase where his monumental loss finally hits him, etc, etc, etc, shit with clu and ram, sark's inured, the encryptions containing the MCP are compromised, he goes crazy and tries to kill everyone and get out of dodge through some dead proto-internets connections, rocks fall and then he dies, and then flynn just kind of
never leaves his house again

Sark's character notes:
- He has white circuits, I am just so derp and need to FIX ALL THE ICONS.
- When he's not sporting his militant gridsuit, he's in garb that looks typical of Castor's EOL crew - trim and formal cloth attire in the white and gray of neutral service programs.
- In being a ~butler~, Flynn's given him permission to access to a small hammerspace inventory of items. You want a book? He is a walking goddamn library and oh golly story time with david warner. [However, he is not a walking encyclopedia and has no idea what is in like 99% of these books.]
- He has no real memory of his time in the old system, but gets deja-vu flashes and the like. He also does not sleep unless it's a command/completely and direly necessary, because he has horrible lucid nightmares of his time spent being dead. In a big, black, freezing abyss. All alone. Good times.
- His deja vu includes some of Dillinger's memories and emotions.
- Some that he simply shouldn't be able to have. Dun dun dunnn.
- The whole MCP and all of his memories/personality from the old system is sort of stowed away in a smaller center disk within the hub on his back. This has red circuitry, but it's concealed by, well, being in the disk hub.
- His fighting gimmick is that he can split his disk in two swanky halves and control them like some sort of bullshit ESP yo-yo; they have a fair enough range, but not as much as a normal identity disk would have. He never touches his disks, and when idling they levitate a centimeter off his open palms - if he makes a fist or anythingor gets tackled horf dorf while they're idling, the connection will be lost and they'll drop to the ground. GG, Sark.
- He gets exhausted in battle quickly/after exerting in general as the MCP requires an astronomical upkeep, and leeches Sark's stamina/cycles/whatever.
- This does not mesh well with his dislike of being kicked into ~status/sleep~, to the point where he'll actually avoid fights if he can.However he's still a Sark and if you piss him off oh god run because he will maim you.
- He's taken from a pre-crazy time, but not that far pre-crazy. So OH HO HO WHAT COULD HAPPEN.
